ALUMNI NEWS
From the Desk of

Ed Eichhorn '69
Greetings from Castle Point! November/December 2007
Greetings!

Ed Eichhorn, Class of 1969I would like to thank you all for your support of our new newsletter! More than 3,000 alumni opened our first issue and more than 600 of you clicked through to our Web site. We also received more than 200 positive e-mails commenting on the newsletter and its content.

In our first edition, we asked for your suggestions to name this e-mail publication, and we received over 100 suggestions, which showed a great deal of creativity. Thanks to all of you who took the time to send us your suggestions for a name. We formed a committee to review all of your submissions, and after much debate and deliberation, the three finalists are: Stevens Alumni Anchor, News from Castle Point and Stevens Alumni Connection.

We would like your input on selecting the final winner. Please e-mail your top choice to alumni@stevens.edu. We will announce the winner in our next issue.

As many of you know, Stevens has expanded its contract research efforts over the last several years. In support of this growing program, a Research Day will be held at Stevens next spring, and the Alumni Association is helping to promote the event. The purpose of this special day is to publicize Stevens research by educating students, industry, government agencies and other organizations that would benefit by knowing about our current research projects. The tentative agenda for the day will include research presentations, a keynote speech and a panel discussion about key issues in research today.

As part of the Alumni Association's commitment to improving communication among alumni and other stakeholders at Stevens, we are pleased to announce that we have selected Affinity Circles to provide a private online network for the Stevens community. We plan to launch this new social networking service at the beginning of 2008. Through Affinity Circles we will provide a new platform to augment our Web site with improved communication capabilities for our clubs and the Stevens community. Our private network will also provide a new jobs board specifically for our alumni.

In other news, we recently learned that Stevens has been awarded a 2007 Sloan-C Excellence in Online Teaching and Learning Award in the category of Most Outstanding Online Teaching & Learning Program. Please read our article to learn more about this honor.

We will provide you with more details about the research day and our private network program in the next issue of this newsletter.

Thank you for your continued support!

All the Best!
